Behind the Curtain of My Mind is inspired by the life of Belle da Costa Greene, the architect of the Pierpont Morgan Library, known today as The Morgan Library & Museum. Belle's contribution to creating the Pierpont Morgan Library is an essential American story. She was a Black woman who was Passing, striving to become an internationally known librarian in the rare book industry.
About Face is a story about entrapment, survival, and love; it is loosely based on historical events of the South. In 1861, Sarah's arranged marriage to Benjamin Pritchard is disastrous at the onset. Sarah is a Black woman who appears to be white and has been successfully "passing" all of her life. She is an abolitionist, and Benjamin is a wealthy slave owner. He despises his wife's ambition of abolishing slavery and has reached his breaking point. Her hope is to find a life of freedom with Will, her illicit lover, who is one of her husband's slaves.
Stories We Never Told emerged from somewhere deep within her and poured out onto the page like a raging rainforest waterfall. The story is written with sincerity of heart and depicts the lifestyles of a family, friends, and their associates, which reveals the ugly and the beautiful nature of their souls. It's a story worth telling -- not just because it is based on some truths -- but because of the lives it will save.
In Sheep's Clothing-- Summer and Skye Lott are raised as non-religious Jews who get involved in a non-conventional Christian church called the "Highly Favored Ministry" (HFM) during the recession of 2009 in New York City. Their mother, Helen, encourages their involvement in the church for ulterior motives. With everything and everyone against him, Summer and Skye's father, Matthew, fight to save his family from a catastrophe that is sure to come.
With over ten years of experience as a writer and editor, I'm passionate about crafting compelling stories that connect with readers. Let's work together to bring these visions to life.
I have written two children's books about the life of Belle da Costa Greene, the protagonist of my new screenplay, Behind the Curtain of My Mind.
Eight to twelve-year-olds will enjoy these books, but all ages above seven will walk away with an impactful message of vision, hope, grit, and pride.
Who I Am: The Extraordinary Childhood Belle de Costa Greene is a children's chapter picture book. It is a hypothesized tale reflective of Belle's challenges, contradictions, and fears while illuminating how her intellect, linguistic abilities, and flourishing life choices grew from the examples set before her.
My screenplay, Behind the Curtain of My Mind, was inspired by the life of Belle/Marion/Greener/da Costa/Greene. The latter of these names, Belle da Costa Greene, is the one that became famous and the one you will come to know in this historical fiction story.
My middle-grade biography, A Huckleberry in A Bowl of Milk, is the true story of Belle Marion da Costa Greene—a brilliant, vibrant, witty, charming, fun-loving—ultimately a famous Black woman who was the architect of The Pierpont Morgan Library, known today as the Morgan Library & Museum. In 1900, Belle crossed the color line to freely and diligently work to achieve her lifelong dream—to be an accomplished librarian. She created opportunities for women by unapologetically living life how she chose to live it—flamboyantly dressed while boldly breaking glass ceilings in the art and rare book industry. She became the premiere Director of The Morgan Library & Museum. Belle da Costa Greene outfoxed the world while strengthening the Black legacy.
